The Vote

I’m getting spammed on Facebook about allowing SA Expats that is still citizens of SA to vote overseas.

I’m one of those that will vote, if I’m allowed to.

Would you?

Why do you think the ANC is so against something which is clearly your right?

I don't think I will vote. I have been out of touch with what is happening in SA for too long. I won't be able to make an informed choice really.

Not voting. I've been out of touch with the happenings too. As long as SA doesn't turn into a second Zim, then I'm relatively happy with SA.

I would LOVE to vote. I have investments there, I pay tax there, my whole family there and I have a current SA passport. I think it's shameful and unconstitutional to deny citizens the right to vote purely because they are out of the country. No other western democracy does this!!

And if you'd like to add my blog, I'm a Saffer in London: http://www.cooksister.com

Please, Please, PLEASE! If you are able to vote, you must! By abstaining, you are actually helping the ruling party obtain more seats.

I think it is disgusting that the ANC is fighting this, but of course it makes absolute political sense as the majority of expats are not their constituency.

I hate the fact that we can't vote - as you (and others) have mentioned, I'm living outside of the country not because I don't want to be South African but for other unrelated reasons. I've even considered going home at the time of the election. We'll see. If I can, I'll be voting.

People on holiday or business abroad, as well as expats, have been allowed to cast special ballots in previous elections. So this is clearly a ploy by the ANC to limit external support for the DA and COPE. If I can't vote for some reason or other, I might end up toyi-toying in a shopping mall. It is a blatant infringement of our rights as SA citizens.

Licia 83 - That is why it is important too vote and to establish a opposition to the the ANC. Competition is good. It keeps you more honest.

Gerhard - As a SA Citizen I should have the right to vote. That is it.
